“Learning the Economic Lessons of the past 10 Years”

Bill Cummings Presents…..
How Federal Government decisions impact the Cairns Region

Bill Cummings is a highly experienced regional business economist who was born and educated in Cairns.  He took a degree in Economics from the University of Queensland in 1962, consolidated at a national level in Canberra as a research economist with the Department of Trade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce.

He returned north in 1968 and for 13 years managed development organisations including a combination of what is now Advance Cairns and TTNQ.

In 1982, he set up his own business and his firm and its market research arm, Compass Research, has worked on almost all aspects of the economy of the Cairns region and across the North.

Learning the Economic lessons of the past 10 years

Bill Cummings has recently been involved in preparing submissions to an Australian Productivity Commission Inquiry into Transitioning Regional Economies.

This has led him to review how the Cairns regional economy has transitioned from economic challenges over the years and especially the more recent impact of the mining boom period.

He will talk particularly about how government in the course of their decisions about fiscal, monetary and regulatory policies have affected the regional economy and future policies needed to help realise the region’s opportunities.

“Have you got your ‘elevator pitch’ right?

Lunch on Friday, 24th February 2017

David specialises in creating an environment where people can understand the factors that are limiting their potential, so as they can develop their own unique communication styles and connect with their audience.

This may be a business person pitching for finance or expertise, a job seeker out to impress a potential employer, a wedding speech in the making, or a person selling their ideas to their community or the world; the communication principles are all the same.

Business ideas have to be sold for them to realise their potential. You not only have to explain what you do and your project clearly, but you have to inspire your listeners to become your ambassadors, cheering you on and spreading the word of your opportunity across their networks.

We look forward to seeing you at the Cairns F4BG February Event with all the others who have left their comfort zone to enjoy an entertaining and inspiring lunch of professional and personal development.

Find out what’s in it for you personally and for your business…

Terry Carmichael –  The Role of the Wet Tropics Management Authority

Protecting our Future… the business of the “happy marriage” of Development and Sustainability

Terry Carmichael is the Principal Project Officer for the Wet Tropics Management Authority.

Terry’s motivation for a lifetime devoted to wildlife is based on the four corners of his personal philosophy. Firstly and most importantly, Terry always strives to deliver excellent animal welfare outcomes for wildlife he interacts with or manages.

Terry’s second motivation is sharing his passion through report writing and delivering exciting, stimulating, and memorable shows, talks, presentations, guided tours, web sites, signs and printed materials.

Another driving force has always been helping to resolve conflicts between humans and animals by assisting with the rescue of sick, orphaned, misplaced or injured wildlife. In his career he has run wildlife hospitals and have been directly involved in the rescue and relocation of thousands of animals.

Last but not least is Terry’s work to assist with the conservation of wildlife, whether it be volunteer work with the Northern hairy nosed wombat program, working with stake holders to resolve conflict issues with flying fox camps or water bird roosts, assisting other scientists with their research, participating in captive breeding program’s for endangered species, participating in fauna & flora surveys or working with state and federal legislation to help implement Significant Species Management Plans to lighten the footprint of human activities on wildlife.

Corporate photography for Elders Real Estate, Cairns - 6 June 2014.

Denise Mitchell

Corporate photography for Elders Real Estate, Cairns - 6 June 2014.

Scott Mitchell

Denise Mitchell is currently the principal of Elders Real Estate Cairns and their offices are located at 124 Anderson Street, Manunda and at ground floor, Virginia House, 68 Abbott Street, Cairns City.

Elders Real Estate Cairns employ over 20  people within their three areas of real estate expertise, that is Sales, Property Management and Body Corporate.  They are also the only real estate agency in Cairns who cover all these three areas of property owners.

Denise commenced working in the real estate industry in Cairns as a salesperson in 1988 and quickly gained success in sales through good customer service and referral business.  Denise’s interests have always covered the full spectrum of this industry and this included becoming a registered trainer for the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.

In 2000 Denise purchased a partnership in a real estate agency and then a couple of years later bought out the other two partners.  Denise has worked with most of the big named franchises and after being a principal under the Raine & Horne name for 6 years, Denise decided to create a boutique style agency in the city and branded it INCITY Real Estate.  After a time the opportunity arose to purchase Elders Real Estate Cairns business and by this time Denise’s son Scott had joined her sales team and it was decided to combine Elders business with her current boutique style agency of INCITY and reband this new business under the very trusted name of Elders Real Estate Cairns.

That was in 2010 and since then Elders Real Estate Cairns has moved to larger premises at 124 Anderson Street and the business has flourished.  Attracting some of the biggest names in real estate, Debbie North, Diane Rubin, Karen Hartley, Neil and Nancy Turnbull, Jeff Eather and Linda Lyons.  Late last year Denise felt it was time to return to the city heart with the assistance of Karen Hartley they opened an office on the ground floor of Virginia House, 68 Abbott Street.  Karen specialises in city and waterfront properties, plus we want to be position to attract the marketing of projects which are currently on the drawing board.
